About Me

My name is Suravi Bhatia

I'm Suravi Bhatia, and I'm deeply passionate about making education fair and inclusive for everyone. I truly believe every student deserves to see themselves reflected in what they learn and how they learn. I'm a Senior at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School.

I'm all about making real change, especially in educational justice. I've been the Environmental Justice Chair for Governor Healey's Youth Climate Council, where I even helped get an Indigenous Climate Council set up in Massachusetts. I also work with my town's DEI Commission to make our community more welcoming for all.

I co-founded Diwalifest, which helped get Diwali recognized as a school holiday and brought our community together. I also lead a group at my school, the AB Desi Equity Student Alliance, that promotes inclusivity and South Asian representation. On top of that, I'm currently conducting research into how misinformation affects politics.

I've even won awards for helping my community, like the Presidential Volunteer Service Gold Award for over 400 hours of service.

I strive hard to build a just and fair society where every voice is uplifted in education.

A Track Record of Advocacy and Leadership

Governor Healey’s Youth Climate Council, Environmental Justice Chair

Successfully advocated for the establishment of an MA Indigenous Climate Council and spearheaded climate policy proposals to the legislature.

AB Desi Equity Student Alliance, President

Led cultural initiatives to promote inclusivity and foster South Asian representation in the school community.

Town of Acton DEI Commission, Commissioner

Provided critical student perspectives to town officials and amplified youth voices while drafting policy resolutions to enhance DEI in Acton.

MIT PERL Lab, Research Assistant

Conducted high-level political research on misinformation and partisanship, analyzing survey data and policy trends.

Diwalifest, Co-founder

Mobilized community support to petition for Diwali’s recognition as a school holiday and organized/expanded Diwalifest for three years, drawing over 7000 attendees.

Acton Boxborough Regional School District Leadership Coalition

As a grade representative, created an incident dashboard that parents can check, working alongside the superintendent, principals, teachers, and staff to make the school district more equitable.
